The newly renovated Bass is a premier meetings and events venue in Miami Beach.
The Bass, Miami Beach’s longtime contemporary art museum, reopens in October 2017 after a two-year, $12 million renovation. Set inside a landmark Art Deco building from the 1930s on the National Register of Historic Places, it was originally the Miami Beach Public Library & Art Center designed by Russell Pancoast. The museum opened in 1964 thanks to a donation from the private collection of John and Johanna Bass to the City of Miami Beach. The latest renovations by architects Arata Isozaki and David Gauld expand the building’s internal structure to create nearly 50 percent more programmable space while maintaining the building’s exterior footprint.
The newly reimagined space is a prime venue for sophisticated meetings and events in a central Miami Beach location. An added bonus is that you can arrange for galleries to remain open for a private viewing of both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions during your event. There are three main venues at The Bass — The Creativity Center, the Lindemann Family Courtyard and Ambassador Paul & Trudy Cejas Lounge. Each offers a wide range of flexible meeting space for 15 to 260 guests.
The Creativity Center
With a private entrance at the rear of the museum, The Creativity Center is composed of three distinct spaces: the Waterview Classroom, Rotunda and Multimedia Lab. These spaces boast floor-to-ceiling windows with plenty of natural light and interactive art installations. Portable AV equipment is available and spaces can be arranged for both presentation and seminar seating. There’s also a private lawn and access to family bathrooms. In all, The Creativity Center is 4,200 square-feet with a capacity for 260 guests.
Overlooking a reflective pool, the Waterview Classroom is 1,265 square-feet with a capacity for 63 seated guests. Boasting original Isozaki design features, the Rotunda can be arranged for 56 seated guests or 90 in an auditorium style within the unique 932 square-foot space.
The Multimedia Lab is ideal for presentations with a built-in screen and full projection capabilities. It features nine Knoll flexible meeting tables and 72 Herman Miller Limerick chairs, as well as a built-in counter and sink. At 800 square-feet, the space can be arranged for a capacity of 90 people in auditorium seating, 40 for conference seating and 27 in a boardroom layout.
Lindemann Family Courtyard
An L-shaped, glass-enclosed courtyard with soaring 29-foot ceilings, the Lindemann Family Courtyard is a lovely piazza-like space in the center of the museum. At 1,990 square-feet, it’s perfect for chic receptions, dinners or meetings with a capacity ranging from 140 to 280 guests. The glass structure allows for abundant natural light and the space boasts terrazzo floors, keystone archways and a private entrance. Depending on your needs, it can be arranged for a seated dinner, with a dance floor, auditorium-style or as a pure reception area. You can also make use of portable AV equipment and take advantage of projection walls.
Ambassador Paul & Trudy Cejas Lounge
Accessed through the museum’s main entrance, Ambassador Paul & Trudy Cejas Lounge connects to all of the galleries both downstairs and on the second floor. With 12-foot high ceilings, the space features its own dedicated art installations. The lounge and lobby can be combined for a total of 2,157 square-feet accommodating a 200 person reception. Additionally, the space comes with access to the 250 square-foot William J. Fox, Jr. Foundation Conference Room for 12-person meetings.
